Here is the recap from team Core: thanks John!

The core team was led by John Blackbourn and Nikolay Bachiyski.

The WordPress Core team covers various aspects of getting involved in contributing to WordPress for people who have not contributed before. This was reflected in the introduction session which covered contributing to WordPress with code, with testing, with documentation, with feedback on ideas and proposed fixes, and also a general introduction to the whole process of contributing and staying up to date with the project.

The session was attended by 35 people, including around fifteen new contributors. During the day, Nikolay and myself helped new contributors get set up with their development environments and helped people find areas that they’re interested in getting involved in.

The aim of contributor days is to help people get familiar with the process of contributing to WordPress – if we get actual contributions in the form of code patches or feedback then this is always a bonus. At the WCTRN contributor day we ended up with at least three patches submitted by attendees, which is excellent. The patches are currently being reviewed for inclusion in WordPress 4.6.
